Bladder Cancer
Bladder cancer is among the most prevalent urological cancers, with the majority being transitional cell carcinomas. Timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment are key to achieving the best outcomes. We offer a full spectrum of care from detection to long-term surveillance.
Types of Bladder Cancer
- Transitional Cell Carcinoma (Urothelial Carcinoma) – most common
- Squamous Cell Carcinoma
- Adenocarcinoma
- Non-muscle-invasive vs. Muscle-invasive Bladder Cancer
Signs & Symptoms
- Painless blood in urine (most common early sign)
- Frequent or urgent urination
- Pain during urination
- Pelvic or back pain
- Unexplained weight loss
Diagnosis
Accurate staging guides the treatment plan:
- Urine cytology and urine culture
- Cystoscopy – direct visualisation of the bladder
- TURBT (Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumour) for biopsy and staging
- CT urogram and MRI for staging
Treatment Options
Treatment depends on the stage and grade of the tumour:
- TURBT – for non-muscle-invasive tumours
- Intravesical BCG or Chemotherapy – to prevent recurrence
- Radical Cystectomy – removal of the bladder for muscle-invasive disease
- Urinary Diversion or Neobladder – reconstruction after cystectomy
- Systemic Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy – for advanced disease
Surveillance & Follow-Up
Bladder cancer has a high recurrence rate. We provide structured follow-up with regular cystoscopy and imaging to detect any recurrence early and manage it promptly.
